It's so weak the players will probably keep it out of combat. It's actually one of the best ways you can add an NPC to the party, because: That said, one of my PCs had a violet faerie dragon companion/pet for much of the campaign and it didn't cause balance issues. I've not read Tasha's book yet, so I don't know anything about these special sidekick rules.
